Most fans have their own opinion of what the real "return to form" was, if any at all, and Brain Drain is mine. To me, the songs flow better stylistically than any other album they made in the 80s. The song structure was just solid punk rock. All the songs have the trademark Ramones hooks and catchiness.

The Ramones' eleventh studio album, BRAIN DRAIN was released in March of Produced by avant-garde rocker Bill Laswell, once again it signaled major changes in the band's camp. Most shockingly, Dee Dee left the Ramones shortly after the album's release, citing the toxic work environment within the band.

Punishment Fits the Crime was an extraordinary use of Dee Dee’s voice Don’t get me wrong, I love Dee Dee’s raw, scratchy, powerful voice in every Ramones song he sings and his solo albums too. But there’s just something about his singing in Punishment Fits the Crime from Brain Drain.

A cover of the Freddy Cannon hit “Palisades Park” had the right idea. Dee Dee later claimed he didn’t play on the album, which destroyed the notion that the album was the last to feature Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Marky, who'd returned to the drum chair for the first time since Subterranean Jungle.
